Elderly rape suspect granted bail

The suspect was ordered to report to the police every week. He will appear for trial on July 9.  Madabula is said to have raped a 12-year-old girl at New Stance in Francistown.

State prosecutor Inspector Azhani Mokokomane said that the accused was arrested and then released by the police and warned to stay at home all the time and report to the police station.

'He immediately disappeared on January 22, the day he was released and he didn't turn up until the girl's relatives tipped the police of his whereabouts on March 11. He was traced after a long time,' he said. 

Mokokomane said that if the accused was given bail again, it should be on condition the he turns up in court when ordered to.

Meanwhile, on a different matter before magistrate Thato Mujaji, a 21-year-old rape suspect has been granted bail on his own recognisance Kelebogile Makwinja  from Thomadithotse ward in Mahalapye is said to have committed the offence on March 9 at Sebina Ward in Borolong.

 The plea was reserved and he will appear again in court on March 28.
