 It said, 'His Excellency was operated on this afternoon. He has now left theatre. The operation to repair the tendon went well and His Excellency is in good condition.'

Earlier, OP had announced 'this evening H.E. the President left for Gauteng, where he will undergo an operation to repair a ruptured tendon in his left shoulder.'

The president was referred to a medical facility in Gauteng for specialist treatment by Princess Marina Hospital staff.

After the operation His Excellency is expected to remain in Gauteng for a few days before returning to Botswana.

'While His Excellency is in Gauteng, His Honour the Vice President (Ian Khama) will serve as Acting President.'
