Grandfather attempts to rape grandchild, 6

Tutume police station commander, Superintendent Vusimusi Jorowe confirmed the incident and said that the incident occurred at 8pm last week Thursday when the young girl was sent by her parents to give her grandfather his supper. Jorowe said, the suspect stays alone at his home few meters from where the young girl and other family members stay.

He explained that upon arrival of the young girl, the suspect allegedly touched her all over the body trying to have sex with her. The young girl managed to escape before she reported the matter to her parents soon after the incident.

Jorowe explained that the girl was taken to Tutume Primary Hospital where the medical doctor assessed her and the medical report confirmed the rape attempt and that penetration had failed. 'The doctor's report shows no penetration and the girl was treated at the hospital and released,' he said.

Jorowe further said they later warned the suspect to appear before the customary court for mention. He said the suspect is likely to face either a charge of attempted rape or indecent assault based on the last doctor's report and the evidence amassed thus far.

'The charge will depend on the evidence submitted from the doctor's report. He will be charged with attempted rape or indecent assault on females,' Jorowe said.

In a gesture of disappointment, Jorowe said the police expect parents to take care of their children and help the police and government reduce crime.

He said it is amazing that it is the same parents who then trouble their own children by committing such crimes.'We are looking at parents to help us fight crime and take care of their own children around the country. They should avoid these offences. It suggests that children have nowhere else to run now,' he said.

In another incident a 45-year-old woman of Boseja Ward in Nswazwi village was found hanging in her house rafters Monday morning.

He said the deceased was staying alone in her home and no suicide note was found. According to Jorowe, some of the family relatives have indicated that the deceased has been ill for a long time.
