Fighters wait for title

Fighters were scheduled to play against Young Strikers on Saturday and a point would have seen them wrap up the title and make a quick return to the Mascom Premier League after a year in First Division soccer. With 44 points, the Mogoditshane side still has three games to go.

The only team which poised a threat to them was Naughty Boys. However, the club that is also seeking to return to the top-flight after a year in First Division football will have to wait for the promotional play-offs. Naughty Boys are second with 35 points. Winning their remaining three games would give them a maximum of 44 points. Fighters can easily clinch the league title tomorrow when they tackle Tlokweng United. A draw would be sufficient while a win would be a bonus. Since they were relegated to the First Division last year, Fighters have only lost one out of 19 games.

In another game to be played tomorrow, Cosmos Blizzards will host Killer Giants at Galaxy Stadium in Jwaneng. On Sunday, Young Strikers face Naughty Boys at the Sharps Grounds while Wonder Sporting host Moshupa side, Kgabo Setso at the Special Support Group (SSG) Grounds in Gaborone. Mochudi Buffaloes visit Red Sparks at the Naughty Boys Grounds in Tlokweng.

In the North, the championship battle is a three-club affair: Great North Tigers (GNT), Motlakase and Boteti Young Fighters.  GNT lead the pack with 39 points from 20 games followed by Motlakase with 38.

The Botswana Power Corporation (BPC)-sponsored Motlakase has a game in hand. It is really a tough contest in the north and the league is destined for a photo finish.

In tomorrow's games, BR Highlanders take on GNT. In Sowa Township, the home side, Sua will host the once-respected Miscellaneous from Serowe. Kasane side, Ferry Wanderers would be hosting Red Lions while Orapa Bucs clash with Boteti Young Fighters in Orapa.
