Vaka resigns as BIHL CEO

 

'The board of directors of BIHL wishes to announce that the BIHL group chief executive officer, Regina Sikalesele-Vaka, is resigning from her position at the company in order to pursue other interests, effective 1st April, 2011,' the company said in a statement. 

Sikalesele-Vaka has been with the group for the past seven years, six of which spent as the chief Executive Officer of its subsidiary, Botswana Life. She was appointed as BIHL group chief executive officer last year.

She was the first woman chief executive officer to head the insurance group. BIHL chair person, Batsho Dambe-Groth, said: 'We wish to thank Regina for her contributions over the years and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.'

In the meantime, the statement said the board will identify an acting group chief executive officer who will be announced shortly and also begin the process of identifying a new group CEO. 'The board wishes to assure all its stakeholders that measures have been implemented to ensure the continued stability of the businesses and the implementation of strategic initiatives through this period of change,' the statement said.

Before she joined BIHL, Sikalesele-Vaka was the chief executive officer of the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA).She joined MVA in the 1990s as a junior officer and climbed up the ladder. She is a qualified lawyer. She graduated from the University of Botswana (UB) in the late 1980s. 

Sikalesele-Vaka has also practised as a private attorney, having started practising in Francistown.
