The game began with GNT attacking the Premier League side and creating scoring opportunities that they failed to bury. They were nearly punished for their profligacy when Chiefs set-up the deadly Joel Mogorosi to tap the ball in; only to be flagged for offside. The disallowed goal seemed to have raised Chiefs' morale to go for the kill. Magosi took control and it came as no surprise in the 29th minute when Pontsho Moloi scored from a brilliant pass from James Kachinga. Four minutes later, Sageby Sandaka made it 2-0 to destabilise GNT before half-time. In the second half, GNT looked more rejuvenated and got courage when Chiefs' coach, Rahman Gumbo, was sent off for insulting an opposition player in front of the referee. After the departure of the coach, Magosi seemed to panic as GNT pressed them back. They finally cracked in the 76th minute when Teko Molapisi scored for GNT. At the same time, Otlaadisa Mangika successfully bottled Mogorosi and kept him quiet throughout the game, forcing the coach to pull him out for Galabgwe Moyana. But in the 89th minute, Chiefs pounced with a goal from Othusitse Pilane to win 3-1.
