He told parliament that his ministry is doing everything possible to contact them so that if they need to be 'evacuated, the government will do everything in its power to repatriate them back to Botswana,' he said.

Mmegi is informed that the quartet is in Libya as students on sponsorship by the Libyan government.Meanwhile Botswana has announced that it has severed diplomatic relations with the Muammar Gaddafi-led country.

When Mmegi contacted foreign affairs spokesperson Tshenolo Modise to explain if this means the Libyan embassy and employees working at the Gaborone office will be kicked out, she said this is not necessarily the case. 'Botswana has said the action of terminating diplomatic relations is not against the people of Libya but the government of Libya. We are not chasing them away, it's up to them if they want to leave,' she said.

Efforts to seek comment from the Libyan embassy drew a blank as their phones rang unanswered.
