Norman Bakwena to deputise Kgosi Kgari Sechele III

'I have been acting since December, today the Kgosi held a formal meeting with the Bakwena royals to notify them of the appointment, the general public (morafe) has not been notified yet,' he said, adding that he did not know when the announcement will be made.

Bakwena said the appointment means a lot of responsibility, which he is prepared to execute fully. He added that he has experience from his previous position as senior chief representative and the tribe should expect to be served well.

Bakwena replaces the late Oletile Makgasane who died last November in a tragic motor accident after he lost control of his Toyota Camry and hit a culvert as he was entering Lentsweletau-where he resided.

Makgasane's appointment by Bakwena Kgosi was not without controversy, especially that he was appointed into a vacancy created when former deputy Kgosi Keineetse Sebele was dismissed from his post. Such was the disapproval of some Bakwena tribesmen that they made it known during a meeting convened by Bakwena Kgosi that they disapproved of Makgasane's appointment and they would go all the way to show their disapproval, even meeting with the president.
