Botswana might host COSAFA Under-20 Again

COSAFA chief executive officer, Sue Destombes has said they are considering bringing the event back to Gaborone again. 'We had a meeting at the end of January and we should be having an answer at the end of this month as to whether Botswana will host again or it will be another country. They (Botswana) did extremely well considering they were given little time to prepare. Botswana really took up the challenge. We believe if given more time, they could even do much better in organising this year's event,' Destombes told Mmegi Sport.

The annual event was held outside South Africa for the first time last year when Botswana were hosts. Zambia clinched the 2010 edition of the tournament; making it two in a row after beating Namibia 4-1.

Meanwhile, COSAFA is still to decide the hosts of its annual senior challenge cup after Angola failed to stage last year's event. The 2010 COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup was not held after the Angolan government failed to honour its commitment to stage the competition.

The tournament is the association's flagship competition and Destombes stated that they are about to complete plans for this year's edition.

'We are nearing completion in terms of the plan for this year's COSAFA Cup tournament. We are busy with the arrangements, there are one or two things that we need to put in place before we make our announcement on who will host the tournament.'

Fifteen countries make up COSAFA and Zimbabwe is the current holder of the senior challenge cup after beating Zambia 3-1 on home soil in the 2009 final.
