Motlakase has had to adjust to life in the First Division following their demotion from the Premier League last season.
The players will have their salaries reduced by no more than 20 percent, according to the club chairperson, Lekoko Motlotlegi.
'We decided to reduce the salaries in order to cope in the First Division. Remember, we are from the Premier League and we have to adjust. There is no money in the First Division,' he said. Motlotlegi said they sat down with the players and explained the decision to cut salaries.
'Most of them had no problems. We are still engaging the few who are opposed to the idea. It is better for us to pay them salaries on time rather than to pay late. Most players understood our decision,' he said.A deep throat told Mmegi Sport that players were asked to take a pay cut as the club faces financial challenges. The source said some of the players agreed to have their salaries reduced, but others were reportedly opposed to the idea.
'Some of the players said the aim is to take the team back to the Premier League and were therefore amiable to the proposal. However, some felt this was unfair. Salaries have been cut by up to P400. Other players have indicated their intention to leave following the new development,' the source said.
Motlakase's stay in the Premier League was never rosy as the team was always on the road for all its matches.
There is no suitable Premier League venue in Palapye.
