BFA CEO exit postponed

Mookodi confirmed that he would leave at the end of August but referred further questions to BFA president, David Fani.

The BFA decided to terminate Mookodi's contract barely six months into his job. Mookodi had been hired to replace his dismissed predecessor, Mooketsi Tosh Kgotlele. Fani said the BFA made a decision to let Mookodi stay until August 12.

'It was initially proposed that he leaves at the end of June but the NEC made a decision to extend the stay to August 12,' Fani said.

The search for a new CEO is underway with August 3 being the closing date for applications. Fani said the BFA executive committee would evaluate why there is a high turnover of CEOs at the association.

The BFA has seen successive CEOs come and go which has affected continuity.

'It is an issue that we will seriously look into. We want to see where the problem is; whether it is the position, the job or the environment,' Fani said.

Meanwhile, the BFA is expected to make a decision on the new Zebras technical sponsor before the end of the month.

Fani said the adjudication process is underway with three companies showing interest. Current sponsor, All Kasi is the only local company to have shown interest in dressing the national team.

Fani said a decision would be made before the August 31 deadline. There are concerns that if a decision is taken late, there might be a vacuum in the early weeks of September as a new sponsor moves in, particularly if the decision is against All Kasi.
