Netball coach fired ahead of Africa games

Assistant coach, Delroy Nkomazana will take charge, with Kelebogile Mocuminyana as his assistant.

BONA president, Tebogo Lebotse said the firing of Gaelesiwe does not present a crisis ahead of the continental games, which start on September 3. She said it is normal procedure for the association to review the coach's performance every two years.

'When we reviewed the team's performance and reasons that prevented us from achieving our objectives at the World Championships, we resolved that a change in the coaching department would be prudent,' Lebotse said in a statement.

According to sources, the target at the 2011 World Netball Championships was a ninth-place finish or better, but the team finished 13th.

However, the team improved its ranking from 18 to 16. Lebotse said BONA has an ambition to among others be ranked in the top 11 in the world. 'The 2011 World Championships were a critical way of achieving this,' she added.

Lebotse said the move is also meant to give other coaches a chance to develop. She believes the change at this time will not affect the team's preparations, as they have made only one change on the coaching bench.
