The first contestant to make it to the next round Bone C was selected last weekend as he went up against his chosen rival, one of the two female contestants, Enigma.
Three days earlier, before the show Bone C and Enigma got a chance to write and record three songs; conscious, street banger and club hit, which they performed in front of the Hip-hop audience of approximately 250 people at Bull & Bush last Sunday.
The panel of judges included K-Love - hip-hop show host at one the local radio stations, and two established hip-hop acts Nomadic and Konkrete. Milez, Ozi F Teddy, Cibil Nyte, DJ Kim Wizzy and DJ Fauz entertained the audience during intervals.
During the song competition the ultimate winner (Bone C) scored 83 percent, against his opponent's 82 percent to advance to the next phase of the Hub Music Series competition, the Top 5. Starting this week Hub Music Series moves to Saturdays after a mini research the organisers conducted to find ways to improve the show and accommodate other internal factors.
This coming Saturday the only female contestant remaining in the competition Lil Mis Andy, will face Dramaboi at Bull & Bush from 3pm to 8pm. Guest performances by Scar, Samba T, Dice Tirodimaswe and Blain N Shay are also on the the programme. Hub Music Series is a music contest organised by Hub Magazine, Botswana's first hip hop publication. The competition demands each contestant to write, record and ultimately perform a track in three categories, club hit, street banger and conscious/heartfelt. The best two artists within the three categories will then go through to the next round. It is a test of character, versatility, performance, ability and X factor. Hub Music Series 2011 is held every Saturday at Bull & Bush, 3pm-8pm.
