CDC gives cash to Zebras

The 174 councillors contributed a minimum of P50 each to thank the team for qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time. The collection came to P10,550 and was handed over to the Botswana Football Association (BFA) official, Tshepo Mphoeng.

Deputy council chairman, Power Moupi, said football is a unifying factor in the country and that they are very proud of the Zebras. 'CDC will always be the first council to come up with such initiatives and other councils will follow,' he added.

The BFA representative, Mphoeng, thanked the council for the donation and promised that the national team will be going to the Africa Cup of Nations to compete and not just to add numbers. The Central District Council (CDC) spokesperson, Sandy Mosarwa said the idea to honour the Zebras came from councillors and the response was very positive. 'We had long come up with the decision to put on full national team attire before it was announced on the radio. More initiatives that include the community are coming. We really appreciate what the team has done and we fully support them,' he said. He stated that this was the first time for the council to make such a gesture to the national team.
