Maxy proves her dexterity with Ko Monateng koo CD

That is what Olebile Sedumedi, popularly known as Maxy, who cut her teeth as a traditional muso, has demonstrated her dexterity, dabbling in various genres over time.

She has done gospel, disco and now she has delved into the world of house, a genre that is becoming more popular at nightclubs, parties and other events normally frequented by youth.

Because of its popularity, the music has become a best seller in the music industry. Realising its commercial value, Maxy stepped up her game and created a house album, dubbed Ko Monateng koo.

'We are influenced by people. If people dance to a tune we have to give it to them. As musicians we don't serve ourselves but music lovers. We cannot sing one tune forever. I am a musician and business woman who is investing in her voice,' she tells Showbiz.

The album itself is quite a piece of work. The sleeve design is superb, attracting the music lover to pick up this album, as it promises to be a full musical package that has a lot of dance in it. Dressed in an evening tight-hugging dress and gold tinted hair, Maxy, also holding a mike, strikes a come-hither look. Still on the sleeve is big surprise. Maxy's boyfriend DJ Nono, real name Nonofo Lekoko, who fathered her child Gauta, has been roped in to give Maxy's house tunes that extra verve.

The album has songs like Gumbo-muchocho, inspired by an Ikalanga song about people who gossip. As usual with Maxy music, songs like Cheater (why marry me?), Di-celebrity and others are social commentaries in which the musician gives her listeners her view of the world as she sees it.

Issues of cheating married couples are not uncommon in Botswana and Maxy here marks herself out as an artist of great repute. The album is produced and composed by Maxy, recorded at Laduma Records whilst it is published at Maxy Investments and performed by DJ Nono. The marketing and distribution of the album is done by Maxy Investments.
