Gumbo faces censure after outburst

Gumbo was shown a red card by referee Omphile Phuthego for the outburst 10 minutes from time with his side trailing 1-0.

In the 80th minute, the ball rolled out of play, and in frustration, the Chiefs' coach kicked it away. The referee approached and cautioned him, but a heated argument ensued and subsequently, Phuthego sent him off for the aggressive behaviour. Before he was given his marching orders, it was apparent that Gumbo, who led Township Rollers to a league and cup double last season, would snap. His charges were under pressure from a much improved TAFIC which was searching for its first win in five matches.

Gumbo kept on throwing his hands in the air in frustration as his boys were under long spells of pressure from their opponents. Match commissioner, Ephraim Maiketso said the coach's behaviour was unacceptable. 'If a coach behaves the way Gumbo behaved over the weekend, it is obvious he has to be disciplined. Gumbo has a tendency of getting emotional when his side is losing. At times, he even snubbed journalists when he has lost a game,' he said.

Gumbo will not sit on the Chiefs' bench for the next two assignments because of the red card.

Botswana Premier League general manager, Phuthego Setete said they are waiting for the match report before referring the matter to the disciplinary committee.
