Prisons XI seek to end long stay

Prisons XI started its fourth season on a mixed note after drawing 0-0 against Young Strikers before beating Kanye Swallows 2-0.

The Warders were relegated at the end of the 2007 season and so far, their efforts to bounce back have not been successful.

Prisons XI acting manager, Ernest Dintwe said they have retained the bulk of the squad from last season and made seven additions. Last season the team finished third with Dintwe blaming injuries for their failure to win promotion.

He said they are determined to make it to the Premier League this season as he feels that they have overstayed in the First Division.

Of the seven players the club has signed, five are from other First Division while two were promoted from the development side.

Dintwe said the team retained the technical team of coach Moipatedi Rankhudu who is assisted by Kaelo Montwedi and Johannes Sekelenyane.    Former player, Aaron Lesupi is the team physician.

Dintwe feels it is an advantage to have retained the same technical team since they understand the players better.

'We intend to continue where we left last season. We want to gain automatic promotion,' he said. Dintwe said the team will be using its new home ground at the Village in Gaborone.

In the past seasons, Prisons XI has been using Sharps Ground at Old Naledi as their home ground.Dintwe intends to return to the developmental side at the end of the season if Prisons XI return to the Premier League.

But one hurdle to Prisons XI's ambition could be the return of the Ramotswa side, Killer Giants to the First Division.

The Warders have always had a tough time against Killer Giants who were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Killer Giants have always had the upper hand against Prisons XI and their return should create headaches for the Warders.
