OLM promotes innovation in Science and Technology

This was an international conference, which was hosted by the University of Botswana (UB) at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC).

Orapa and Letlhakane Mines(OLM) public and corporate affairs manager, Kesego Kebelaele, said this partnership is in line with the Debswana's strategic pillar of innovation which emphasises on continuous improvement to promote sustainability. 

When acknowledging Debswana for this support, the Local Arrangements Committee chairperson, who is also a Professor at the University of Botswana, George Anderson, said that through the years, Debswana has been a much-valued partner with the University in promoting the IASTED Conference initiatives, through sponsorships and insightful presentations that add clout to the forum. 

'The University of Botswana highly appreciates the partnership with Debswana. As a world-class organisation and the lifeblood of Botswana's economy, their (Debswana's) participation brings great value proposition to our conferences.,' said Professor Anderson.

He added that, 'The papers presented by the company also have far-reaching implications for Botswana as they put the country on the world map by demonstrating the wealth of knowledge and skill we have in areas of science, technology and engineering.'

IASTED is a non-profit making organisation devoted to promoting economic and cultural advancement in both industrialised and developing nations.

It organises multi-disciplinary conferences that attract top scholars and industry professionals from more than 40 countries, who develop and share ideas in the areas of science, engineering and technology.

This year's conference was held under the theme 'Science and Technology Applications for Health and Sustainable Development' and focused on water resource management, power and energy systems, modeling and simulation as well as health informatics. Debswana presented a paper on modeling and simulation.
