Botswana Police Women Network donates to the needy

The network comprises female officers from Francistown, Masunga, Tutume and Tshesebe.

Handing over the donation in Francistown on Friday 3 September 2010, the Commissioner of Police Thebeyame Tsimako praised the officers for showing compassion to the underprivileged.

He urged them to continue with the spirit of giving back to the community that they serve, adding that the gesture was in line with the Vision 2016 pillar of a safe and secure nation.

The Commissioner also encouraged the officers to extend their social responsibility activities to other members of the community who need such help. Tsimako said the Botswana Police Women Network was officially launched in 2009 to empower women officers so that they can realize their potential.

Earlier on in his welcome remarks, Officer Commanding No.15 District Senior Superintendent Chabaesele Kesupetswe said the donation was raised through selling packed lunches, sponsored walks and cash contributions from individuals.

He said local companies such as Tati Nickel, Dunns Store, Bolux Milling, Rebels Fruits and Veg showed support by contributing clothing and food packages.

He revealed that the seven families were identified through social workers and community policing initiatives.Kesupetswe further revealed that the Network had in the past conducted women-led special operations which resulted in a significant reduction of some offences especially of idle and disorderly persons.
