Sebego to quit BFA?

Although Sebego denied reports of his pending departure, impeccable sources said the Gaborone lawyer is ready to quit because of sharp differences with Fani.

But Sebego told Mmegi Sport yesterday that he is still part of the BFA executive committee and will continue to offer his services as long as he can.

He said as far as he knows, there is no bad blood between him and Fani. Sebego said differences of opinion are normal and do not necessarily mean that people are not in good books. Sebego said normally he and Fani would have differences when discussing issues in the committee. 'But that is not something that I can resign over. It is normal to have differences of opinion in a democratic set up like ours,' Sebego said.

Sebogo said he would always speak out when dissatisfied. However, despite this assertion, there is strong speculation that Sebego might leave the BFA.

He is said to have told his colleagues at BFA of his intentions to resign but was persuaded to stay on. Sebego is reportedly unhappy with Fani's leadership style where only a few are said to be making crucial decisions while others rubber stamp.

One issue that is said to have riled Sebego is the contentious constituency football tournament. Sebego was allegedly angered by a decision to apologise to the government after the association was accused of misleading the nation on the constituency soccer matches and the threat of FIFA sanctions.

The doves within the association persuaded Sebego to stay on as his abrupt resignation would have thrown the association into limbo because there are a number of issues under his perusal.

'It was felt that he should be convinced to finish off whatever he is working on, rather than leave abruptly,' said our 'deep throat'.

Efforts to get a comment from Fani were unsuccessful as his phone rang unanswered.

The BFA has battled a litany of problems in the recent past with Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Shaw Kgathi's revelation that the association lied about an imminent FIFA sanction if the format of the constituency football tournament was not revised, living the mother body with its image battered.

Only last week, it emerged that the association had submitted its 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) bid late, with the blame falling on the BFA.
