TASC, TAFIC register wins at last

It has been a difficult start to the season for both TASC and TAFIC but weekend wins have brought relief to the struggling sides.

For TAFIC, playing against Mochudi Centre Chiefs immediately after being thrashed 4-0 by Township Rollers was never going to be an easy task.

But they stood their ground and redeemed themselves in front of their home supporters with a 1-0 win. Their first victory saw them move to 11th position after five games. Chiefs on the other hand are slowly losing ground on the early pacesetters, Rollers and ECCO City Greens.

The Kgatleng giants are now six points behind Rollers and ECCO who both registered their fifth straight victories.Chiefs' task is always made more difficult by the fact that they always meet a wounded side fresh from a Rollers' beating.

They first met Extension Gunners who had been clobbered 2-0 by Rollers in the previous fixture and Chiefs lost 2-0. Nico was next on their list and Nico had just lost 6-1 to Rollers. Although Chiefs eventually won 2-0, they looked far from convincing as Nico gave them a torrid time. They could not escape against TAFIC who lost 4-0 to Rollers in the last fixture. It now remains to be seen whether they can beat Motlakase which have not won a single game and lost 1-0 to Rollers in Selebi-Phikwe on Sunday. Chiefs are fifth on the log with nine points. They are level on points with Gunners but have a better goal difference.

TASC had also not won a single game before their encounter against Police XI, which they won 1-0. The victory lifted them up to position 12 with four points after languishing at the bottom of the log for a couple of weeks.

But things are getting worse for Motlakase who struggled last season. Their second season is not getting any better and their poor form suggest that they might be in the  relegation fight.

Their next encounter is against Chiefs who would like to return to winning ways. Motlakase are now the only side, which has not registered victory so far. They are placed at the bottom of the log with only one point.

All clubs will be in action over the Independence holiday, with a mouth-watering clash between Gaborone United and Extension Gunners scheduled to mark the official opening of the new Lobatse Stadium on Thursday. Both Gunners and GU have made promising starts to the season, with the Lobatse side winning their last three matches.

Meanwhile, Botswana Premier League Disciplinary Committee will today deliver a judgement in which Uniao Flamengo Santos accuse Rollers of not following proper procedure when they attempted to lure their players, Mogakolodi Ngele and Thato Bolweleng. Both Santos and Rollers made submissions to the committee recently.

The judgement was initially scheduled for last Thursday but was postponed to today at 5pm at the Botswana Football Association (BFA) auditorium.
