Local strikers take early charge

Since the arrival of Rahman Gumbo at Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Moatlhaping has bounced back and is re-paying the coach's faith in him.

Bolelang, Koko and Tshekiso have four goals each. Zebras' coach Stanley Tshosane should be a happy man seeing that both Moatlhaping and Bolelang who had not been part of the team for sometime have hit form again.

Tshekiso is justifying his inclusion in the Township Rollers' team after scoring his second successive brace against TAFIC at the weekend. Koko, who joined Rollers this season, has scored in every Premier League game for Rollers.

This is a refreshing departure from previous seasons where foreign strikers have dominated the goal-scorers' charts.

Meanwhile, Gaborone United's (GU) 1-1 draw with Uniao Flamengo Santos on Sunday night has left Rollers and ECCO City Greens as the only Premier League sides with a 100 percent record. GU now trail leaders Rollers and ECCO, who have both won their opening four matches, by two points.

Rollers continued on the rampage when they crushed TAFIC 4-0 at SSKB Stadium while ECCO overcame city rivals, TASC 3-2 in Francistown. Rollers top the goal by virtue of better goal difference compared to the Francistown side.

GU have 10 points and remain third, displacing Chiefs who had temporarily occupied the position after a 2-0 win over Nico on Saturday.  Chiefs returned to winning ways after they lost 2-0 to Extension Gunners in their previous encounter.

Things are getting tougher for Motlakase, TASC and TAFIC who are still winless in the new campaign. TASC and Motlakase are equal on points, goal difference, goal for and goals against. They have each collected one point while TAFIC have managed only two points from four games. Motlakase had a miserable trip to Lobatse and lost 2-0 to BMC while TASC almost snatched a point from ECCO but narrowly lost 3-2.

Miscellaneous registered their first victory after they edged Black Peril 3-2. The victory lifted them up to eighth position with five points from four games. Extension Gunners registered their second victory as they overcame BDF XI 2-0  on Sunday. After losing their first two games, Gunners got a confidence booster when they defeated Chiefs two weeks ago. They are placed seventh on the log with six points while Police XI, who defeated Notwane, are in sixth position with seven points.
