Unfancied Matlolela clinches golf title

At the end of the action, defending champion Peter Podise was nowhere to be seen at the winners' podium after he was dethroned by the fast-improving Mark Matlolela. Last year's runner-up, Dion Frost clinched second position again.

The players were divided into three categories - Division A, B and C.  Division A was for those with handicaps of 0-9 and B was for 10-17 handicaps. Division C was contested by 18 handicaps and above.

A fight was expected between Podise and Frost, both of whom have a handicap of one. But it was Matlolela, with a handicap of six, who had other golfers playing catch-up. There was also Coin Ntabe and Noah Majube both with a handicap of eight.

The Division B winner was Tony Da Rocha followed by veteran Simon Mack, a 13 handicap, who acquitted himself very well in the recent FNBB Northern Open where he came third with a gross score of 167.

 Enoch Mushango, the Division B winner in the FNBB competition, grossed 158 overall followed by Pat Magowe who achieved 164.

Lucky Mudongo, Morne Kotze, Da Rocha and Ashan Kunda were some of the top players in Division B.
