Mama's Babe coming to town

Those who were a little older during that time would pretend not to like it but its simple yet powerful appeal would often get the better of them and in no time would either be singing along, nodding their head or even get on the dance floor.

But it has been years since most revellers heard of Mogopodi and the song itself only gets so little time on radio these days that most 'ma 14' would not know of it.

Now the musician gets a chance to rekindle his old magic at the Splash National tour which kicks off at Debswaba Club in Jwaneng on October 29 while the fans would take a step back into history and remind themselves of the good old times.  Sidney is not the only reputable yester year musician scheduled to feature at the annual disco event.

Joe Shirimane, Esther M, Penny Penny, Neo Maphaka as well as CJB are on the line-up too.

Otherwise the event would feature the usual line-up of Splash, Matshikos, Dalom Kids, Peacock, Slindile and Don B. Perhaps a notable absentee would be the evergreen Patricia Majalisa who recently left the Dalom stable to start a new career under Gallo Music.

Many people have been worried by reports that Don B had left Tshanda's stable alleging  that he had been robbed in royalties but his boss dismissed such allegations during a recent press conference in Gaborone that if his protg was angry with upset with him he would not have requested to be included in the coming shows.

'The thing is after his (Don B) old contract expired we did not sign a new one because we wanted an improved one which would allow him to be his own man; and because these things are not easy we both gave ourselves time to think but he is still very much part of Dalom Music.

I was surprised by the reports that I had cheated him but I contacted him and he denied it and now he has requested me to take him on this tour and I agreed,' Tshanda said. Dalom Music's new kids on the block Tafula Madiba and Berea are also billed to perform at the festivals to launch their careers. Berea has released an album while Madiba's latest release is expected on the music shelves before the end of November.

Perhaps the bad news is that Splash followers in the northern part of the country would be left in the cold as this summer tours would only have three shows all of which would be staged south of Debete.

After the opening show in Jwaneng, Tshanda and his troops would travel to Molwapowabojang on October 30 for a show, which would include a DVD shooting of the performances.  The closing event is expected at Lions Park in Gaborone on November 27.

Explaining the decision to cut down on the number of shows, Tshanda said that he was busy producing a lot of artistes this year that he won't have much time for live shows.  'I know those fans in places like Francistown deserve it but we are held up and I promise they would be covered when we come for the February shows.

I have a busy schedule which has forced me to cut the Zimbabwe shows out as well but I would have wanted to do the usual,' he said.
