Sedibeng slated to tour Europe

Speaking to Showbiz in an interview, an elated publicity and marketing officer, Kelebogile Moapare, said that during the Euro Tour, the 30-strong group would visit four cities - Uppsala (Sweden), Stockholm (Sweden), Newcastle (United Kingdom) and London.  If everything goes according to plan, they will also get an opportunity to tour Finland.

According to Moapare, Sedibeng last year successfully staged a home-brewed performance dubbed Made in Botswana and the same show will be presented in Europe.

'On September 23, Sedibeng will be taking this performance to Stockholm and then to Uppsala in Sweden.  Whilst there the choir will meet with other choirs and participate in cultural exchange workshops,' she said.

Moapare further said Sedibeng would then make their way to London where they will meet with the Hackney Singers and share musical experience and further take to the stage with the group on October 8.  During their stay in London, the choir will visit a school to share cultural and musical experiences.  On October 9, the choir will visit Newcastle.

She also said that during the tour the group would be hosted by other choirs in the host cities.  Led by Andy Batshogile, the choir has since inception performed for numerous corporate establishments, including Debswana, the Diamond Trading Company (DTC), the European Union (EU), the French Embassy, the British High Commission, the Swedish Embassy, the Chinese Embassy, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), Alliance Francaise, G4S, Fairground Holdings, and Women's Affairs, among others.

The group has also performed alongside big names like Sibongile Khumalo, the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra and Vusi Mahlasela.

Sedibeng has also performed notable classical works and these include Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, John Rutter's Feel the Spirit, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Beethoven's Choral Symphony, Joseph Haydn's Creation, The Opera Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan.  Sedibeng's Euro Tour will be sponsored by the Department of Culture and Youth in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and Yarona fm.
