Barclays announces Johnson's replacement

 

Usman Ahmed, the incumbent managing director of Commercial Banking at Barclays Africa, has been appointed Acting MD of Barclays Botswana.

According to the bank, Usman brings with him 18 years of experience in commercial banking in various markets including the Middle East, United Kingdom, Asia Pacific and Africa.

Expressing delight in the new appointments, Vinit Chandra, CEO of Barclays Africa said, 'I am confident that Bret in his role as the new managing director for Southern Africa, will take the businesses in Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe to a whole new level. Bret has a proven track record of building and growing businesses and is among the most experienced leaders that we have in Barclays Africa.'

He also thanked Johnson 'for the contribution he has made to Barclays in Botswana over the last seven years. Under his tenure, we have exponentially grown our customer base, distribution footprint and profitability and I wish him the very best for the future.'

Chandra added that Barclays has been in Botswana since 1950 'and we have an excellent franchise there. Our team on the ground is among the best and we will continue to invest and grow in the market.'

Rizwan Desai, Chairman of Barclays Botswana, endorsed the comments made by Chandra, adding that, 'It has been a pleasure working with Thuli, who has been a vital component, and at the forefront of the Bank's success in recent years. I wish him a successful future career.'
