BNF summons youth over media utterances

The Monitor has learnt that the BNF top brass is not happy with statements made by Youth League secretary general, Arafat Khan and spokesman, Maikgantsho Ramontsho on the congress resolution that allows expelled members to come back to the party. Khan reportedly said that BNF secretary general, Akanyang Magama had not interpreted the resolution properly. He faulted Magama's take that the expelled politicians automatically became members after the congress and there is no need for them to formally write to the party indicating their interest to re-join. Khan stated that the resolution calls for expelled members to be reinstated after going through normal re-admission procedures contrary to Magama's call for automatic admission.

Ramontsho has been summoned to appear before the executive committee after he was quoted in the press saying the politburo never invites them to party events. Today, the duo will meet the party executive to explain why they contradicted the politburo in public.

Khan confirmed that there is a meeting between the Youth League and the party executive but he could not be drawn into saying what will be discussed. Without giving details, the BNF spokesman, Moeti Mohwasa said the meeting is the normal consultation between the executive committee. 'It is normal that the executive meets youth structures to discuss party issues. That's all I can tell you,' he said.

Meanwhile fireworks is expected in the meeting between the two organs as some youth are expected to call into question the loyalty of certain party leaders whom they accuse of factionalism and undermining the Youth League.
