Boko under threat?

The Monitor has learnt that the plot is said to be led by secretary general Akanyang Magama and other party politburo big wigs. Their plan is said to be to remove Boko, who took over the BNFL leadership from Otsweletsi Moupo, and replace him with someone of their choice. The BNFYL trio of Ntime, Khan and Ramontsho is said to be the obstacle to the alleged plotters' ambition to oust Boko, as they hold sway in the youth league and are against any manoeuvres to remove the new BNF president. So the trio have also been lined up for removal so that with their departure the plan to remove Boko will be executed smoothly, The Monitor is informed.

The subterranean plan is said to be spreading from the power centre (politburo) to the party structures across the country.

People have been approached and asked to pay allegiance to the emerging power seeker within the party, The Monitor is told.

When contacted, over the weekend Ntime confirmed that he is aware of the plot. He said that he has also heard that some people who want him removed say he is too powerful in the party.

'We take these rumours seriously. It once happened in Moupo's time when some people tried to topple him. But he later called a special congress that consolidated his presidency. We were told by some people who were approached with the idea (of toppling them). They were against it and hence came to us to warn us. We want to rebuild the party and cooperate with other opposition parties with a view of taking over the reins of power from the BDP. This party does not belong to anyone, but all Batswana and we will not allow any clique to turn it into their property. Ga e le sengwe re tla thulana (If need be, we will clash),' he said.

But Boko dismissed the rumours as nonsensical. He said no one 'in the central committee could want to do such a thing - remove a popularly elected leader like Boko? That is absolutely crap,' he said.

For his part, Magama said the people spreading the rumour that he is leading a group that wants to topple Boko, 'must be the ones who want to do that. Tell whoever told you that that we don't have time for this nonsense,' he said.
