Chiefs go down to Tafic

A shock 2-0 loss to Extension Gunners a fortnight ago was followed by a 1-0 humbling by struggling TAFIC at the Francistown Stadium on Saturday.

TAFIC scored through a penalty from  Clarkson Dzimbiri at the death of the game. Chiefs' supporters are pressing panic buttons considering that the likes of ECCO City Greens, Township Rollers and Gaborone United have been picking maximum points with ease.  But there is one man who still believes that it is too early to write Magosi off.

Speaking to Sport Monitor yesterday, Chiefs' coach Rahman Gumbo said that he is a man on a mission and very soon his side will be blazing hot.

'There is no need to panic because we're rebuilding the team. If you look at the team, we lost some key players from last season and there are new ones who still have to adjust. It is important for people to understand that the rebuilding process cannot be done overnight,' said Gumbo.

At the start of the current season, Chiefs lost the services of talented midfielder Dirang Moloi who moved to Vasco Da Gama in the South African Premier League. Attackers Musonda Mweuku and Sekhana Koko have joined rivals Rollers and defender Given Mpundu went to Gaborone United.

Gumbo who guided Rollers to their first league title in five years, said that against TAFIC, they were in control but they could not find the back of the net. He criticised the referee who handled the match saying he decided the outcome of the game. 'I don't really know where the penalty came from and something needs to be done about the officiating in the north,' he added.   Another coach who is under immense pressure to deliver is Sikalame Keatlholetswe at BDF XI. Since the season kicked off, Matebele have not been convincing and only managed to register single win against Uniao Flamengo Santos.  At the weekend, BDF XI were held to a 1-1 draw by Nico United in Selebi-Phikwe.  The team is still trying to find a winning formula. Reliable sources have told Sport Monitor that BDF XI is rocked by internal problems. In other results, TASC registered their first win of the season when they beat Police XI 1-0 in Otse.

Notwane's poor start continued when they were thrashed 2-0 by Santos in Molepolole.

In Selebi Phikwe yesterday, Lawrence Majawa's only goal of the game ensured that Township Rollers collect maximum points against Motlakase. The win sees Rollers at the top of the log with 15 points from five game.

Mapalastina remain on course to defend the league title they won last season.
