Kweneng Land Board in double allocation saga

The owner of the land claims it was acquired by his father in 1995. He has fenced the area enclosing some plots and buildings inside leaving the new allottees with worthless pieces of certificates.

'We are left with the certificates and the Land Board has not been able to allocate us plots.  They now want to relocate us to Gakuto, which is far away from our livelihood and place of birth,' one of the affected, Lenah Motlhwe said on Friday.

She stated that there are about five or six people affected in what seems to be a double allocation but the Land Board seems not to be in any hurry to resolve the matter. Motlhwe said she had already erected corner poles on her land and moved sand and concrete to the plot to start construction.

Councillor Patrick Gabanamotse said he has been trying to push the Land Board to resolve the matter in vain. The vice secretary of Lentsweletau Sub-Land Board referred enquiries to Kweneng main Land Board. A public relations officer at the main Land Board promised two weeks ago to respond to queries but by the time of going to press he has not done so. Last Friday he was said to be attending a meeting in Gaborone.

Cases of double allocation of plots are common in Kweneng especially Gabane, Mogoditshane and surrounding villages.
