Notwane financial woes force Masomere out

Masomere left Notwane last Thursday in what came as a shock move to some fans, particularly after their recent 4-0 victory over Extension Gunners.

'There are a number of reasons why I left but it would be inappropriate for me to talk about some of them in the media,' he said yesterday. Although he could not divulge how much money the club owes him, he said it is a substantial amount.

He hopes the club will raise the money and pay him. 'It is difficult to work without being paid [and therefore] I found it difficult to survive because I do not have relatives here,' he said. He said despite the setbacks, he had a good working relationship with everyone in the club.

Masomere is still in the country waiting for his payment before returning to Zimbabwe.

He is however open to offers but warned that this time he wants to join an ambitious side eager to win silverware.

He said when he arrived at Notwane last season, the team was struggling to get results but ended up improving and finished in eighth position. He added that he was ready to win something this season with his young players but could not because of the financial situation at the club.

Notwane spokesperson Cyrus Mogashoa said Masomere handed in his letter last Friday and the club has accepted his resignation. He said Masomere, who also coached Gaborone United (GU) and Nico United, cited the club's financial problems as his reason to quit.

Mogashoa said the club owes Masomere between two and three months' salary. He said they have his September salary. Christopher Rabalago and Moeteledi Chaenda will be in charge in the interim as the management is still to decide on the way forward.  Meanwhile, Nico are also said to have parted ways with coach Willard Khumalo.  This now brings coaching 'casualties' in the Premier League this season to three. Black Peril were the first to part ways with their coach, Machine Nthaga, after just a few games in the Premier League.
