But the BFA should not think that fans will be pacified by hosting a regional tournament for small boys when an opportunity to host a major event has been let to pass. Hard as the BFA leadership might try to explain reasons behind dropping the 2015 AFCON bid, soccer fans would not be forgiving when they think of what would have been. Although hosting the AFCON cannot be compared to the junior COSAFA tournament, where has the money suddenly come from in the middle of the Zebras' 2012 AFCON qualifying campaign? When the 2015 bid was abandoned, we were told that BFA wants to channel its energy and financial resources towards ensuring a successful 2012 AFCON campaign. What has changed?

Talking pointThe Botswana team that competed at the Commonwealth Games restored the country's pride after winning four medals. Golden girl, Amantle Montsho was the star of the show, making amends after the disappointment of Beijing 2008 and last year's World Athletics Championships. It is fine that Montsho has won the country's first gold at the Commonwealth Games. But the ultimate prize should be a world title or an Olympic gold or both. Winning a gold at the Olympics or the World Championships is the ultimate dream of any athlete and Montsho being at her prime, should go for it. She belongs to the elite class after all.
