Mega Com proves their mettle

Though the side formed only two seasons back fell 4-0 to Premier League title contenders ECCO City Greens in the final, they impressed after a gallant fight. The young side lost but showed that it had come a long way with coach Blessing Moyo proving his tactical mettle in the tournament.

Mega Com were ruthless in the run-up to the final, defeating Red Bulls 3-0 before handing Tonota FC a 4-1 drubbing in the second match.

In the semi-final, they overcame Amakhosi 6-5 after a penalty shoot-out. Mega Com director Michael Belebesi was pleased with the display and vowed that they will win the cup next year.

'You are celebrating (the Cup win) for the last time,' Belebesi warned ECCO.

Francistown Region Football Association chairperson, Patrick Mathe said Mega Com's performance was testimony of growth in the lower divisions. 'It shows growth in our lower division leagues and this is a result of dedication,' Mathe said.

Councillor Ben Mpotokwane who attend the games, urged teams to take the tournament seriously.

'I applaud ECCO because they took the games seriously which is the reason why they won,' he said.

Mega Com swept two of the three individual awards on offer, with midfielder Shaolin Mothibedi voted the best player. Boikhutso Baipedi was adjudged the best goalkeeper while TAFIC's Wellington Sibanda was the top goal scorer. Though they bagged a fifth Independence Cup title, none of the ECCO players won an award.
