Police arrest freelance photojournalist

They arrested freelance photojournalist Lefoko Mogapaesi and took him to Central Police Station handcuffed. The main reason for the arrest is that he was obstructing the police from doing their job.

Other photojournalists who were closer to the action told this paper that the police had requested them to move away and they did, but Mogapaesi refused protesting why this was not extended to the Botswana Television cameraman who was allowed to continue taking pictures.

This did not go down well with the police officers who handcuffed and took him to the Central Police station.Information and Research Officer at Media Institute of Southern Africa Mpho Motlhabani confirmed late evening that Mogapaesi had been released after their intervention.

He said that it was not proper for the police to arrest him for doing his job, even though the two parties had a misunderstanding during the performance of their duties. He said that the photographer will be officially charged today.
