Sebetela Calls For Smooth Hand-Over

Sebetela said outgoing committees should always hand over records to ensure continuity.

He was speaking at the Gaborone City Regional Football Association (GCRFA) sponsorship launch in Gaborone over the weekend.

Sebetela said there is a tendency by some outgoing committees to sabotage their incoming colleagues by deliberately refusing to hand over records. 'There is no way our football is going to grow if new committees are always going to have to start from nothing,' Sebetela said. He said time has come to take stern action against committees that refuse to hand over properly.

Dirang Motors, a local owned company dealing with panel beating and spraying painting as well as auto repairs, has sponsored GCRFA with P200,000 for two seasons. The company has also donated to GCRFA an office at their premises. They have also bought four trophies for each winning team in each division. GCRFA has 61 teams and running four leagues. Sebetela also likened the sponsorship to a holy matrimony and advised GCRFA to take care of the sponsor. He said if they fail to do so the sponsor will turn their back on them when they want to negotiate for an extension when the sponsorship comes to an end.

Speaking at the same event, GCRFA chairperson Albert Gaopele said the sponsorship would come as a relief for the Gaborone region small leagues. He said GCRFA is the largest and has a huge number of teams that they are struggling to help financially. Gaopelo thanked Dirang Motors for showing trust in them by sponsoring them and promised that it will be put to good use. He said when they took office their intention was to bring hope to the lower division football and believed that they were on the right track. 'We believe, with Dirang Motors' help our football will never be the same again, and we will protect the sponsor at all cost in the interest of football,' Gaopelo said.

For his part, Dirang Motors Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thamani Jeppe said they found it fit to contribute in their small way to the development of football in Botswana. Jeppe said though the sponsorship is for two years they hope they will continue to grow with the game even after the two seasons. Dirang Motors, which sells bottled water as well, also pledged to give 50 thebe to GCRFA for every  bottle of water sold.
