Makhoere looks set to rejoin Chiefs

The South African star had a brief stint with the club during the 2008/09 season, but had to leave barely three months into his 12-month contract.

Makhoere featured for Chiefs on Wednesday when they played First Division side, Security Systems, in a friendly match.

The 26-year-old looks set to sign for the club after an impressive display in Magosi colours. Chiefs are left with one slot for a foreigner with defender Itayi Gwandu and left-back James Kachinga the only imports.

They had set aside the slot for former Nico United striker Master Masitara, but the two are yet to strike a deal, as the player indicated that he wants to finish the season in Mozambique.

After leaving Magosi last season, reports were that Makhoere had left an unhappy man over his welfare. However, he quashed those reports saying he had to attend to his ailing businesses in South Africa.

'It was not an issue of me not being happy, as people think. I had to go back home because my businesses were not doing well. My family kept calling me and I decided to leave,' he said.

He added that he is ready for a lengthy stint this time around if the club is still interested in his services.

Makhoere did fairly well under former Chiefs' coach Beston Chambeshi in the few games that he played.

Should he successfully sign for the club, he will join former Platinum Stars' striker, Jomo Moatlhaping. Makhoere joined the Rustenburg side after Moatlhaping had left the club.

During his first stint with Magosi, he had penned a 12-month deal but did not see it to the end as he left last March.

The diminutive midfielder is said to have been frustrated by the then Stars' coach Miguel Gamondi's selection criterion at Stars where he only played a few games.
