Mini-World Cup Cricket Challenge starts

The tournament selection committee headed by the chairman of the Gaborone CC Ravi Srinivasan announced the 16-member squads last Sunday.  Teams are well balanced and promise to provide entertaining cricket for the next five weeks.

Botswana, the defending champions and the winners of most of the last 10 mini-World Cups, face this year's favourites, India, in the opening encounter tomorrow. The match is expected to be fought up to the last ball as the two teams play strength with strength.

Botswana is captained by James Moses while India will be led by their vice captain, Noor Ahmed, in the absence of their captain Dinesh Chandra.

Each of the six teams will play each other in a round robin format. The tournament runs from October 30 to December 4. The 19 games to be played from 6pm are likely to attract good crowds. Food, braai, drinks, jumping castle for children, light and sound, cheer leaders, all galore at this major cricketing event in Gaborone.

Dickson Gabanakgosi of the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC), will officially open the tournament at the opening ceremony at 4pm.
