Stanbic bankrolls Tswapong soccer bonanza again

The event will be held for the third time in a row tomorrow (October 30), at the Swallows grounds in Palapye.

Ten teams from Moshopha, Pilikwe, Palapye, and Lerala battled it out in the knockout stages to determine the three teams that will clash in the finals. A draw will determine the fate of Tip Toe, Palapye United, Morupule Wanderers and Stanbic Bank Football Club in what promises to be nail-biting encounters as the teams contest for the top prize.

Commenting on the tournament, Stanbic Bank Public Relations Manager Ruth Modisane said: 'The success of the tournament grows annually. The past two years have been really good. We believe that this year will be even better and more competitive. Stanbic Bank is committed to playing its role in developing grassroots soccer in Botswana, hence this continued sponsorship.'

The winner of this year's tournament will walk away with P4, 000 while runners-up will pocket P2, 500. Third and fourth place finishers will get P1, 500 and P1, 000 respectively.

In addition, the seven teams that did not qualify for the finals will walk away with P500 each.

As has become the norm, Swallows grounds will be a hive of activity as there will also be a family fun day and traditional dance from some schools in Palapye to complement the football. The Master of Ceremonies for the day will be Yarona FM's Chillyboy, who will be entertaining the fans with his football humour.

Fobby Radipotsane, the Chairman of the Tswapong Regional League said: 'This partnership with Stanbic Bank, which has been on for three years has been instrumental to the development of football in the Tswapong region. We appreciate their assistance and hope that it will continue to grow from strength to strength.'

The games will kick off at 0900 hours and entry is free. In addition to supporting local soccer, Stanbic Bank is involved in ensuring Batswana are financially literate. The bank also continually strives to provide innovative banking solutions that enhance the lives of Batswana.
