The show organised by Queen Kolobe of the Madame Queen Modelling Agency is termed Spring Line Fashion Show 2010 and will feature the latest summer trends for both men and women.
Speaking to Showbiz, Kolobe said yesterday that the collaboration between Dioka and Kgomotso was simply a gesture of appreciating local celebrities. She said that most of the time people tend to focus on certain celebrities, forgetting others, adding that theirs is meant to show how much talent there is in Botswana. Kolobe said the show would feature people of various ages starting with three-year-olds. She said this is because the fashion show is open to everyone even parents who want to know how to keep their children well-dressed during summer. 'We are in one of the hottest seasons of the year and it is essential for people to know how to get dressed. People should learn how to mix summer colours to blend in with the blooming plants and should also not be afraid to be dressed in less clothing,' she said. Kolobe said the fashion show would feature a range of clothes some from boutiques and some by different local designers. She said this is in-order to promote and empower local entrepreneurs.
However, Kolobe said the show would also be used to raise awareness for both cancer and HIV and AIDS. She said sometime before and during the show, her models would wear pink and red ribbons so as to spread the word. 'This month is recognised internationally as cancer month and in December we will be celebrating World AIDS Day,' she said. She said incorporating these in her show is to reinforce the fact that both illnesses are a reality and that they claim millions of lives every year. She said the objective is to sympathise with the infected and affected. Kolobe said she is also worried about the way people are still ignorant about AIDS even after efforts by different organisations to drill the message into people's minds. 'People have to know their partners' status before deciding to sleep with them,' she said.
The fashion show will, however, end in a Hawaiian themed after party for the vibrant at Windsor Inn on the same day. A cover charge of P40 would be levied for those who didn't attend the fashion show. Performances would be by Kennedy Thal, Lee Tshipana, Thabiseng, and Michael Yugi whilst the decks would be handled by DJs Jam-n-i, Platinum inc, Cyrus The Virus and T-Man.
Sponsors for the event are Mmegi, President's Hotel, Distell Nederburg Wine, Gym Active, Windsor Inn, Echo and The Voice.
