Kokorwe, Briton to launch new film outfit

The multi-media company, which will begin operations with an administrative office in Chigwell Essex and state-of-the-art post-production studio facilities in Gaborone, will be launched in London on October 22.

Kokorwe says a follow-up launch will be held to coincide with a screening ceremony of the company's new film about Sir Ketumile Masire in Gaborone on February 17 next year.

'Heritage Media House will work internationally and will be capable of taking film commissions as well as producing its own films for African, European and worldwide audiences,' he says.

The company, which aims to have a global resonance, will also open in the areas of Internet broadcasting, multi-media advertising, media training, publicity, film distribution and talent management,' he adds.

'Heritage Media House is aptly named because it has its roots in Botswana where it began as Ngwao Boswa Ltd., then a partnership between Billy Kokorwe and the late Dr Kenneth Barlow,' he explains. 'It pioneered local television documentary production with 'The Story of Sir Seretse and Lady Khama.''

His partner, Dominic Savage, came on board after the untimely death of Barlow, his lifetime friend. He functions as Executive Producer and oversees operations in the UK and other European countries. He received an award from her the Queen of England in 1997 for services to education.

Heritage Media House's studio in Gaborone will further advance the company's mission of developing Botswana's film production and multimedia industry by assisting young and upcoming producers achieve their production plans.

Kokorwe continues: 'At a global level, its mission is to promote a more positive image of the African continent compared to what is so often seen on the world's screens of constant war, famine, hopelessness and despair.

'It will endeavour to produce work that accurately articulates a multi-dimensional world perspective by fusing history, culture, world politics, business, education and entertainment with a sophisticated, non-biased, one world orientation.'

Kokorwe will shortly attend the London Film Festival and Black History Month activities.
