Northern softball league starts

In Selebi-Phikwe, Comets who have changed their name from Motloutse, face neighbours, Wippers.

Defending champions, Rail Giants from Mahalapye, will start their campaign against Comets tomorrow before playing Wippers on Sunday.

Northern region league general manager, Tswinkie Kesebonye said Estate Construction is sponsoring the competition for the third year running.

The company has donated P200, 000 to finance the league.

Meanwhile, Kesebonye said the opening of the transfer window has been re-scheduled to next year.

'The transfer window was supposed to be open but we decided to move it to next year. We do not have many players who want to switch clubs, which is why we decided to open the window early next year,' he said.

Kesebonye added that they have made provisions for players who might relocate during the current season. He said such players can write a letter to the association stating which club they intend to join.

'We have agreed with the clubs that if a player relocates due to work or other reasons, the association should be informed,' he explained.

The women's league resumes this weekend with all the clubs in action.

Kesebonye said the league will break at the end of the month to make way for the Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) games.  'The league will be on a break because most of the players are students and they will be taking part in the BISA games,' he said
