BMD goes to Phikwe

The party's mobilisation committee chairman, Kabo Morwaeng has said the decision to hold a massive rally in the town is meant to take the party to the people in a bid to explain its mandate and what it represents. 'People mainly want to hear why we formed a new party and we are coming to do exactly that,' he said.

He explained that the party has a programme of holding countrywide rallies. Already BMD has held rallies in Francistown, North West, Ghanzi, Southern District and Ramotswa. Morwaeng said the aim of the weekend rally is to officially introduce the party to Bobirwa, Mmadinare and Selebi-Phikwe (BOMASE) region. 'It is an ongoing programme and all the party leaders and members from neighbouring regions will attend this national project,' he said.

Morwaeng said they decided to hold the rally in Selebi-Phikwe because it is the capital of BOMASE region. He said they are very satisfied with the party membership in the region and they have already put in place a regional committee and constituency committee. 'We are existing and more visible in BOMASE with all necessary structures in place. Selebi-Phikwe constituencies and even Mmadinare constituency somehow had many Barata-Phathi members of the BDP so they have been very friendly to the BMD. Many people have been calling us to come to Selebi-Phikwe. We have so many members who joined our party but they are not yet ready to declare it publicly. We have been holding indoor meetings with our members in the mining town.'

Morwaeng said they want to motivate people to work for the party. Selebi-Phikwe West MP Gilson Saleshando of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) is expected to give a motivational talk at the rally. Public announcements of the weekend event are expected to start on Wednesday. The whole town will be painted orange on Friday as a branding and membership drive strategy, Morwaeng said.
