Khama assures 'queens' of state sponsorship

President Ian Khama made this announcement when addressing Rainbow English Medium School students with Wareus, who graduated from the same school last year.

'Let me take this opportunity to congratulate you on behalf of the whole nation for the achievement you recently acquired when you were overseas. I hope they informed you that when I was delivering the State of the Nation address I said starting with yourself and Montsho, our gold medallist, government would want to reward such achievements obtained on the international stage by offering you a sponsorship of your choice,' the President said.

Wareus has done Botswana proud by becoming the Miss World first princess at the Miss World competition held at Sanya, China, early this month. She arrived in the country last Friday, for a few weeks, before jetting off to London, where she will be based while globe trotting with Alexandria Mills, the Miss World who hails from the United States of America (US).

Montsho on the other hand smashed the Commonwealth Games women's 400m record, winning the gold medal in the games held in New Delhi, India, in 50.10 seconds.

Zimbabwean born Munya Chidzonga of Big Brother Africa All Stars (BBAS) graced the event to the excitement of the students who went crazy taking pictures and disturbing a conversation between him and Wareus. He had to be helped into his car by his entourage, while Wareus took cover in her car after being assisted by a Mmegi photographer.
