Computers to create health record for citizens

The newly introduced computerisation system, called Integrated Patient Management System  or IPMS,  will be promoted at Kgotla in Mahalapye Taupye, Makwate, Kudumatse, Mookane, Dibete and Shoshong. 

Molefe said the Kgotla meetings will focus on IPMS, adherence to medication, advertisement of the hospital toll free number, customer complaints and procedures. Further, he said, their main objective will be to create a single health record for every citizen.

They will also focus on computerisation of medical records for improved storage and retrieval, improvement of patient flow from registration, consultation, laboratory tests and admission and pharmacy. Molefe said they will improve their booking system, scheduling, and service delivery and save time spent in hospital queues.

Also, their focus intends to improve their Anti-Retroviral (ARV) Therapy Programme and to access, accurate patient history. Further, he indicated that they want to improve their customer - health care provider communications.

In addition to that the initial implementation hitches and delays due to entering the patient data will be improved.

He said the current problems encountered in hospitals are caused by networking problems, server problems, power shortage brought about by the frequent power cuts, shortage of computers in such institutions and work group members movement which often are brought about by transfers and resignations.
