BCP members demand clarity on cooperation

This is in light of the fact that despite the minimal achievements of the initiative the opposition youth from BNF, BMD and BCP have been holding joint programmes that they started on June 16.

They also suggested that the party set a deadline for cooperation talks. This will do away with the current confusion, they say.

On other issues they felt that there should be a performance audit committee that will monitor those holding political offices in the party. They said Bulela Ditswe should be abolished within the BCP because it causes tensions between party members.

Party secretary general, Kesitegile Gobotswang, explained that there is no cooperation between opposition parties. He said presidents of the concerned opposition parties are still in discussions on the issue. He said there has been an informal arrangement by the youth of the three parties to engage in joint programmes.

Meanwhile, party president, Dumelang Saleshando, was concerned at the tendency of some elected party officials who behave like civil servants and hardly get involved in party activities. 'Some BCP councillors have become de facto independent councillors,  who have rented out the party name and have no obligation to get involved in party work beyond the boundaries of their wards.

The culture is not consistent with what we have set out to achieve,' he said.

The party president also said the spirit of volunteerism and a better coordinated system of harnessing the energy of the party members can outdo the BDP despite its financial muscle.

'There will come a point when the BDP funds will reach saturation point and additional funds deployed will not result in additional votes.

I will therefore be consulting the executive and the central committee on the most suitable model of engaging our volunteers including those who may wish to volunteer their efforts without being card carrying members,' he said.
