Local strikers prove their mettle

His closest challenger is another local, Moemedi 'Jomo' Moatlhaping of Mochudi Centre Chiefs who took his tally to 10 on Saturday after scoring four against debutantes, Miscellaneous.

Both Bolelang and Moatlhaping have been in and out of the Zebras' fold but the latter was recently recalled after some brilliant performances for his club.

Bolelang is yet to be re-called although he has proved that he is returning to the form that made him one of the most feared strikers in the country.

Rollers' speedy winger, Joel Mogorosi, who has been enjoying the form of his life, is third with nine goals although he could not find the back of the net on Sunday when his side drew 1-1 with their traditional rivals, Gaborone United (GU).

He had a chance to increase his tally but he wasted some glorious opportunities although he had a very good game once again.

The chasing pack is also dominated by local strikers with only three foreigners making the cut. Mandlaenkosi Sibanda (ECCO), Tendai Ndoro (Nico United) and Kenanao Kgetholetsile (BMC) have each scored six goals while Sekhana Koko (Rollers), Bonolo Fraiser (ECCO), Kakanyo Motlhabanare (Black Peril), Musonda Mweuku (Rollers) and Bernard Semakwezi (Nico United) have netted five goals each.

Meanwhile, Rollers remained on top of the log with 29 points from 11 games despite their 1-1 draw with GU on Sunday. Popa are two points ahead of ECCO who drew 2-2 against BDF XI on Saturday. ECCO could have drawn level with Rollers on points but found the going tough against BDF XI who had lost two consecutive games prior to their game against the Francistown side.

GU are third with 21 points from 10 games while Chiefs who thrashed Miscellaneous 6-0 kept fourth spot with 20 points from 11 games.

Gunners managed victory against Black Peril despite the club being embroiled in a boardroom wrangle. Gunners' executive committee were to meet with coach Daniel Nare yesterday in another sign of further trouble.

The win leaves the Lobatse giants in fifth position with 18 points.

The going is getting tougher for both Motlakase and TASC who played to a 2-2 draw over the weekend.

Motlakase are still at the bottom with only five points while TASC are number 14 with seven points. TAFIC's 3-0 victory over Police XI has put them in position nine with 14 points.
