Seek refuge in The Bible - Khama

In his State of the Nation speech yesterday, Khama said the fact that freedom of expression is precious does not mean it should be misused to mislead or abuse others.

Khama, whose disdain for the local media is well known, said there is a line between holding people and institutions accountable and spreading rumours and untruths.

'This type of conduct, whether done by politicians, academics or the media, adds no value whatsoever towards nation building,' he said. 'To those who are sometimes targeted for such abuse, I advise them to simply ignore such regressive tendencies in our society.'

The President recommended Romans 12:19-21 as a refuge from the media and other detractors.

He quoted the passage:

'Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay,' says the Lord.

Therefore, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing, you will heap coals of fire on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.'
