Itekanele exceeds expectations

According to what is characterised as a statement to celebrate five years of wellness, the beginning of Itekanele Health Scheme was inspired by a desire to provide high quality but affordable medical cover.

Today, Itekanele has branches nationwide to service clients in Gaborone, Francistown, Maun, Palapye and Kanye.

The scheme was set up in 2005, in response to a felt need for affordable health cover for the majority of Batswana.

At that time, only about 100,000 people had health insurance, mainly the working class and people who earned a substantial monthly salary, says the statement from the company.  'Public health care was the only means for some to access service and this created congestion in these facilities as demand was high,' it continues.

Over the past five years, the focus of Itekanele Health Service has been on unwavering a social responsibility programme and extended it to various sporting codes and individuals in diferent communities.

The beneficiaries include JKA Botswana, Kutlwano Volleyball Club, Kata-Bo, Tswapong Regional League and Francistown Football Association.

Says the statement: 'We try every day to save one life. Our network of service providers has extensive experience in healthcare (and aim) towards making everyone well.'
