BISA to hold elections at AGM

On the agenda will be the election of a new committee as the current office bearers' three-year term has elapsed.

BISA presidential aspirant Steve Botlhasitse is unopposed while incumbent Morebodi Joseph will contest the vice president's post with Joshua Gaotlhobogwe. Eagile Molelo and Christopher Ramotsisi will vie for the secretary general's position while vice secretary general, Albinah Molwantwa faces the challenge of Christopher Chikwakwa.

Treasurer Michael Oreng is unchallenged. Tebo Segaise and Phineas Godfrey will challenge incumbent publicity secretary Tapiwa Mokoka.

The meeting will also discuss working hours for teachers who take part in sports.

BISA spokesperson Mokoka said the AGM would offer a perfect opportunity for the issue to be discussed. Teachers abandoned coaching and sports activities at schools, arguing it was not part of their job description. Teachers demand to be paid for working beyond classroom hours.

Prior to the AGM, the association will carry out social responsibility activities in Ghantsi. Yesterday, BISA donated sports equipment to Gantsi Prison and played a football game with inmates. They also donated foodstuff to D'kara Orphanage Centre. After the AGM, BISA delegates will pick litter in the village as part of their keep the environment clean campaign.

Mokoka said they have found it worthwhile to give to the needy. 'It is important for us to give to the community, remember that these people are the parents of students that we use for our sports activities,' Mokoka said.

The BISA spokesperson believes that the current committee has attained its targets although it faced financial constraints. She said when the committee was elected, its target was to come up with a strategic plan and formulate policies, which they managed. She said the committee secured significant sponsorship during its tenure.

Mokoka also said that there was an improvement in sports at most schools this year during which Botswana has hosted the COSASSA Games.
