BMC fire Kalambo

However, BMC chairman, Sonny Phiri told Mmegi Sport that the club had decided to fire Kalambo following a string of poor results.

'He was failing to give us the results and there was only one way out - to show him the door. I believe we have been patient and he kept on losing.

We have a fairly balanced squad which can compete better than most in this league and we did not understand why he continued to lose games,' Phiri said.

Under Kalambo, BMC has only won once, drawn four times and lost four games.

The team's other win was under assistant coach, Enos Mmesi when Kalambo was away due to ill-health.

Phiri said that the management spoke to Kalambo on several occasions on the under-performance and that nothing changed as the team continued to drop points.

Although Phiri claimed that Kalambo had accepted his fate, the coach denies he has been fired.

'I do not know anything about me being fired. I have not heard that from anyone (at the club).

Maybe they are still planning to tell me on Tuesday (today) but so far I have not received any communication to that effect,' he said.

Kalambo declined to comment on his performance and if it warranted his firing. 'I cannot say anything now because I have not met the officials, maybe I would be in a better position (to tell you) on Tuesday.'

But Phiri insisted that the coach had been informed about the decision.

'He even indicated that he is looking forward to returning home to Zambia because things are not working for him here,' Phiri said.

He said the management is still to meet to decide on a caretaker coach.
